Fourth of July in Dana Point – Navigating our Fireworks Extravaganza

Dana Point is a popular spot for locals and visitors to celebrate the Fourth of July each year. Dana Point hosts one of the best fireworks shows in Southern California with its own customized playlist to sing along to! (Recording includes a 10-second count down.)

The fireworks show begins at 9pm sharp.

There are plenty of great locations for viewing our Fireworks Extravaganza.  Viewing locations include:

  • Pines Park
  • Heritage Park
  • Lantern Bay Park
  • Baby Beach
  • Doheny State Beach
  • The Harbor Island
  • Sampson Overlook Gazebo

The City’s Public Works team has provided recommendations to avoid parking and traffic challenges, especially at Dana Point Harbor.  The Harbor Shuttle will run throughout the day on the Fourth. The route includes Dana Point Harbor Drive (Park Lantern to Ocean Institute), Island Way, and Dana Drive.

Overflow parking is available at Dana Hills High School, up Golden Lantern from the Harbor to Acapulco Drive. If parking is full, use available parking on Golden Lantern and Stonehill. The City is providing a continuous shuttle from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. from trolley stop 18 on Golden Lantern adjacent to DHHS to  the corner of Dana Point Harbor Drive and Golden Lantern.

Cove Road will remain open throughout the day but will be closed to traffic during the fireworks show. Once the show is over, Cove Road will be reopened. The Dana Point Trolley will stop running at 8:30 p.m. due to increased crowds, but will otherwise be available all day to get around.  Keep in mind the shuttle service from Golden Lantern/Dana Point Harbor Drive to the OCTA Bus Stop on Golden Lantern south of Acapulco will continue until 11:00pm.

Gather the family and friends and look towards the skies over Doheny State Beach and experience this patriotic extravaganza. Please stay safe and allow for extra time to and from your holiday destinations.
