New Improvements:
Last year, the picturesque Scenic Drive began undergoing some improvement projects designed to enhance road conditions, public access, and better protect sensitive plants and animals from damage caused by trespassers. Here’s a quick update on our progress.
As you probably know, our original trail system at Harbor Point Park did not extend back to Scenic Drive. Now, a new trail extension will allow for better use of the open space. It will also allow people to exit at a new overlook deck.
Work In Progress:
As for that new wooden deck, once it’s complete, it will offer hikers and visitors a gorgeous view above Harbor Point Park. The deck will be located where Green Lantern turns into Scenic Drive. The City is currently working to finalize a few components with our contractor and anticipates construction to begin next month.
This month, Scenic Drive is scheduled to be slurry sealed on Monday, February 24th (weather permitting). If you plan to be in the area, please keep in mind the roadway and Nature Center parking will be closed that day.
Other Recent Improvements:
In December, curbside parking was moved to the uphill side of the street directly across from the previous parking area. There were no changes to the number of parking spots(39), which included ADA compliant spaces.
A new sidewalk was also constructed on the downhill side (ocean side) of Scenic Drive from the cul-de-sac at the Nature Interpretive Center. Before, a sidewalk existed only on the uphill side.
We appreciate the public’s patience as the City works on improving the place we call home. If you have any questions, please email publicworks@danapoint.org.
